About Our Appointments
What Kind of Online Appointments Can I Do?
The ASC offers two types of online reading and writing support appointments:
1. Live Consultations (Online Sessions)
Live Consultations are live chats in which a student can upload a draft (or instructions, or notes) and speak with a consultant live via Zoom. Online consultation are similar to our in-person appointments and are great opportunities for brainstorming and idea development.
Troubleshooting Online Consultations:
Can't get the video/audio to work? Try this: while you're logged into the appointment on your computer, log into the appointment on your phone as well. That way you can video chat on your phone while typing on your computer.
2. Written Feedback (Draft Reviews)
Written Feedback appointments are asynchronous, meaning that students can upload their document and their assignment instructions and receive written feedback from a consultant by the end of the day. There is no Zoom meeting for this option. This feedback will be in the form of marginal comments on their document and a feedback letter discussing strengths and coaching the student through possible revisions. Draft reviews are not for having papers proofread. Consultants will not change the student's grammar, spelling, or punctuation. Draft Reviews are for late-stage drafts of papers and may not be ideal for brainstorming.
The ASC Also Offers In-Person Consultations
You can meet with a writing consultant at either campus. Don't be shy about stopping by. We would love to meet you!
- Our Center Campus location is in C-105 in the library building. (586-286-2203)
- Our South Campus location is in J-305 in the library building. (586-445-7400)
How to Schedule an In-Person Appointment:
- Click on the Schedule an Appointment link on the left. This will take you to Penji.
- Click on Find Support on the left.
- Choose In Person Appointment at the top of the list.
- Click on the Join a Subject box that appears to pick a subject from the dropdown box.
- On the Pick a Time page, choose Filter by Location. Choose either South or Center Campus.
- Please note asynchronous feedback does not involve speaking directly with a consultant. It is not a live option and is written feedback only.
- A list of open times will appear. Choose the one that is most convenient for you.
It's possible you might be able to get a walk-in appointment without reserving one first, but if all our spaces are already we filled, we might not be able to help you. We tend to be especially busy during midterms and towards the end of the semester.
