Genre

At the beginning of any writing process, a writer must ask important questions.

• Who is my audience?
• What is my purpose?
• What do I want to say?
• Why do I think it is important?
• What do others already know?
• What do they need to understand?
• Why must they understand it now?

Questions like these can help a writer to determine the conventions of the genre (the kind and context) in which they're writing.
