National Novel Writing Month at the ASC!

NaNoWriMo at Macomb!

Are you a writer? Do you want to be?

Have a book idea? Fiction, poetry, nonfiction, memoir? Perhaps you're looking to write a professional article but haven't had the time? Want to establish a regular writing practice? Join the Academic Success Center for NaNoWriMo—National Novel Writing Month—this November.

NaNoWriMo is a national non-profit organization Links to an external site. that provides structure, support and community for those who aspire to write that piece of creative writing they've always wanted to. It started as a writing challenge to write 30k words during the month of November, and now is an international event with hundreds of communities of writers, events, and creative resources.

Special Events

Motown Midway Madness

For our second year, we're partnering with NaNoWriMotown Links to an external site., the Metro Detroit area chapter, to bring you the Motown Midway Madness event! Here's a description of the event:

Motown Midway Madness is a writing event where participants write "competitively" in sprints and word wars, activities that will help them eke closer to their final word count or writing goals. There's a good deal of happy competition with our team championship. We have a plethora of sticks and buttons to give away. We also run a raffle and have a few fundraising items on hand. Admission and participation in Motown Midway Madness is free--including the raffle!

A beverage service will be offered, and attendees are welcome to bring food or a potluck dish to the event. No sign-up required--just bring your writing materials and join us!
When: Saturday, Nov 16, 2024, at 9:30 am EST
Duration: 6:00
Where: Macomb Community College South Campus (J Building), Macomb Room (3rd floor)
14500 Twelve Mile Rd, Warren, MI 48088, USA
If you have any questions about the event, please email Kate Lutes at lutesk01@macomb.edu.

Write-Ins

Looking for some writing buddies? Need some accountability? Join our writerly leaders, Kate Lutes and Nicole Castle-Kelly, weekly at our campus and online write-ins, where we spend an hour focused on our NaNoWriMo work. Talk with other writers about your progress or commiserate about your challenges! This is a great opportunity to connect with other NaNoWriMo participants.
